Versatile Bags for Travel that are Multifunctional
Shopping . TravelI am trying to determine which bags to take with me on my upcoming trips. I want to make sure I have a bag for every purpose I anticipate needing, but taking the least amount of bags. Having bags that are multifunctional, and versatile is especially helpful when going on a trip that requires needing a bag for multiple uses.
For my 9 day trip, I will be packing in a carry-on. I will not be checking any baggage on the way there, but I want to return with a checked bag to bring home souvenirs and gifts, or items I buy shopping.
Since I will be using public transportation, and going to multiple destinations, a carry-on backpack is my best option. I will be using my Osprey Women’s Fairview 40L Travel Backpack. (The men’s version is called Farpoint)
Since I will checking luggage on my return, I need a packable, lightweight duffel bag that I can bring along in my carry-on on the way there. I am still searching for one to purchase.
Of course, I will also need a personal item to carry my items that I will need access to on the plane. I find a backpack is the easiest option. I used to always travel with my North Face Recon Backpack (newer model here), that I used throughout college. I loved that bag, and got so much use out of it; however, the wear and tear on it is significant, and is not really usable anymore. Prior to my trip last year, I purchased a new backpack, but since I was going hiking on that trip I wanted one that was ideal for hiking. The bag I bought is great for hiking, and super comfortable, but it is not as versatile, and I did not enjoy using it for plane travel.
I bought the Gregory Juno 24 Backpack. I found that my items where difficult to access in the big pocket, and the height of the bag made it stick out a bit underneath the seat, which made it less comfortable for me to rest my feet. Therefore, I think I need to purchase a new personal bag for plane travel, which hopefully can be multifunctional.
For day trips, and sightseeing I like to have my wallet and phone easily accessible, and don’t want them behind me to prevent pickpocketing, or having to take it off every time I need to access something. So I find a tote works better than a backpack for me for sightseeing. A simple canvas tote bag, or a Longchamp bag are packable options to bring along
