Center Pompidou is center for arts and culture located in the Beaubourg area in the 4th Arrondissement in Paris (Locals refer to it as Beaubourg). The actual name of the museum is not Center Pompidou. The modern art museum of Musée National d’Art Moderne (National Museum of Modern Art) is located within the Pompidou Center, which also houses a public library, a music and acoustic research center. People often refer to the National Museum of Modern Art, as Center Pompidou. This is NOT the same as the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris or MAM Paris (English – City of Paris Museum of Modern Art or just Paris Museum of Modern Art), which is located in the 16th Arrondissement.
The Musée National d’Art Moderne (National Museum of Modern Art) is the largest modern art museum in Europe. The Museum comes in second after the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) for the largest collection of modern and contemporary art in the world.
Before deciding to go, it is best to determine if Modern Art is you preference. Not everyone is a fan of Modern Art, and just going based on recommendations on others may leave you disappointed. (The museum houses art from 1905 and on.)
